A formal dance.
WHERE: The Atrium, Haven's Hub.
WHEN: Today! The dance will go on from the late afternoon until the early hours of the morning.
WHAT: Have your top hat and cane? This is a formal ball. The origination is a drunken Vandal and battle-worn Saber.
WARNINGS: Could be anything from bar fights to drunken swearing to people tripping over their own feet or people making out in a corner.
The Atrium will have its doors open in the late evening. For the first two hours, Vandal and Drift will be acting as receptionist and bouncer. After that, the doors close. At the reception desk, you will be required to sign your name and also hand over any weapons that you are carrying. (Within the building there is an inhibitor placed. No one will be able to use any weaponry on their person.) The Atrium is decorated in royal purple and black, with accents of white and pearl. The decorations are standard fair for a ball. There's hanging draperies, table clothes, and colored lighting. Towards the outside of the circular Atrium, everyone will be under a glowing white light. Towards the middle of the dance floor, there is a much softer lavender that illuminates the immediate area. Vandal and Saber organized and planned, and then helped with decorations. They will also be over seeing the event throughout the entire night. Vandal will be handling the reception desk and registration. We have Frenzy as our DJ in the Atrium, and Miko will be playing electric guitar for those who decide to visit the bar. Saber, Ironhide, and McCrane will be acting as security. They would be the best to contact should you have any.. safety concerns. Our bouncer, Drift, will be "on call" for security once his primary assignment is done. Kay organized and lead the decorating, and Ravage and McCrane helped with placing them. Melan and Joe gathered needed materials. Skidaddle is the one to blame for having the supply of available hats at the doors for any Cybertronian who tries to get past the one piece of attire rule. Feel free to post in any sub-forum area you think your character would be present in (with or without an opening post), or merely tag others. Prose or action-spam is okay (and you may want to include this in your initial posts if you want others to tag you). Bonus: include links to garments your character may be wearing. This is entirely up to you! Have fun! Make sure to add your character to the tags! (That's the registry.) |

You can lead if you'd like.
I really don't know the difference. Am I supposed to learn the leading position?
no subject
I should learn how to follow, regardless.
no subject
Works for me, then.
I'd like to help you learn to follow, then.
oops, tl;dr. feel free to do a timeskip to where they're doing somewhat better if you want!
[ Saber stands in front of Sissel and thinks before moving, but then nods as she makes up her plan. Taking his one hand, she sets it on her hip appropriately and then takes his other hand in her own so its held outwards. Proper dance form, right? Well, she'd say so, except she's not used to being the one who's grasped on the hip. It felt somewhat awkward now that she was in that position.
She did, however, leave them with something of a distance apart so that they could look down at their own feet. ]
So until you have the basic pattern, I will say the movements out loud, each time. Then I will simply count the beat and leave you to remember the movements.. I'll go over the movements once now, so you know the most to expect, and then we'll start doing it.
..Beat one is step forward with your left foot. On the second beat, step forward and to the right with your right foot. It's like making an upside-down letter L. You will switch your weight to your right foot, and keep your left foot stationary. On the third beat, slide your left foot over to your right and stand with your feet together. On the fourth beat, step back with your right foot. On the fifth beat, step back and to the left with your left foot, tracing a backward L. You shift your weight to the left foot. And the sixth and final beat.. you slide your right foot toward your left until your feet are together; then you start over. And repeat.
[ When she stopped explaining, she'd shake her head with a soft smile. ] Sounds like a lot, doesn't it? But it will become second nature when you do it over and over. So.. let's begin..
..Step forward with your left foot..
sounds good to me!
He nods at her instructions, looking down at their feet and trying to memorize it. He didn't know what an 'L' was, but he kept his eyes on her feet to get the motion down. It seemed...relatively simple, at least. It wasn't long before his head got a little mixed up with everything, but...that was the joy of learning, right?]
Well, I suppose the worst that can happen is we'd fall over, right? Best to think worst case scenario, and that's not TOO bad.
[He smiles, giving a nod, and took the step...
And before long, he had the hang of it. He seemed to memorize the steps after the first few times, every now and again stumbling over himself. But where he did, he soon corrected, and by the first dozen attempts, he was leading the dance like a pro.]
Huh...not so hard, after all.

Fortunately, Sissel was so focused on his own movements, he wouldn't notice her lesser misfortunes. And by time he had figured out his patterns, so had she. ]
No, it's not. Repetition makes anything like second nature with time.
[ Since they were dancing to a different beat than everyone else, they had eventually migrated to a secluded corner of the dance floor where they wouldn't have to worry about interrupting or being interrupted. ]

Do you think things like this remain with you? ...Even if you think you forget?
[Don't mind the question, Saber, he's just curious.]
no subject
Although I have experienced amnesia before, I had regained the memories over the span of several nights. I hadn't forgotten anything imperative as say.. my swordplay or something that I would consider hard to forget such as dancing. I .. think that it'd be impossible to entirely lose abilities that are critical to me, even if I did somehow forget. Such things were, like this, second nature.. but also like my swordplay, which is of the utmost importance to me.
[ Saber breathes in gently as she's done speaking. Tilting her head slightly, she hopes what she said made any sense. ]
It's a good question. I surely doubt anyone would forget how to walk or talk or even dance if they have danced enough. But I also think skills we have acquired that were close to our heart would stay with us. Perhaps the memories would just need to be jogged. I think the ability would still be there and would be as it was before if revisited.
[ Saber smiles a bit sheepishly after a moment of hesitation. ]
I'm sorry for blathering; that likely wasn't what you were looking for..
no subject
[He smiles, making sure he's not stepping on her toes again. It'd been a few minutes since he last looked.]
I can't remember anything but my name. I see things that are familiar, things I know the names of, but some elude me. I can't read or write, but I can speak. I don't know my likes or dislikes, or even if I'm good at anything. If I could jog it...like you said...
[He shakes his head.]
Your question was JUST what I was looking for.
[A laugh.]
I doubt I was good at dancing, then.
no subject
That's a very violent case of amnesia. ..I'm sorry you have to experience that.
[ She hasn't looked down at her own feet in a while, so she apparently has mastered this version of dancing. This mirrored one. ]
no subject
[It made himself feel better about it at least.]
Who knows? Maybe it'll trigger something.
no subject
It seems I am potential of being a dancer teacher, after all. You're doing quite well for the amount of time we have spent together.
[ Withdrawing her hands from him, she bows her upper form politely and then stands upright. ]
no subject
Thank you, ma'am. Couldn't have done it without you.
damn that action bracket.
[ She pauses, bringing her hand to her chin momentarily. ]
You may want to practice that once a week until you feel it's been cemented in your memory. You wouldn't want to forget what you have learned now, would you?
[ Saber didn't really think it'd mean more to him than she meant, but she simply was going with the belief that you lose what you don't use or practice. ]
Have a good night and enjoy yourself, Sissel.
no subject
I don't want to keep you. Thanks for everything, Ms. Saber. It'll definitely be something I'll practice.
Good night to you too. And enjoy yourself, okay?
