A formal dance.

WHO: Everyone!
WHERE: The Atrium, Haven's Hub.
WHEN: Today! The dance will go on from the late afternoon until the early hours of the morning.
WHAT: Have your top hat and cane? This is a formal ball. The origination is a drunken Vandal and battle-worn Saber.
WARNINGS: Could be anything from bar fights to drunken swearing to people tripping over their own feet or people making out in a corner.

Welcome to the dance!

The Atrium will have its doors open in the late evening. For the first two hours, Vandal and Drift will be acting as receptionist and bouncer. After that, the doors close. At the reception desk, you will be required to sign your name and also hand over any weapons that you are carrying. (Within the building there is an inhibitor placed. No one will be able to use any weaponry on their person.)

The Atrium is decorated in royal purple and black, with accents of white and pearl. The decorations are standard fair for a ball. There's hanging draperies, table clothes, and colored lighting. Towards the outside of the circular Atrium, everyone will be under a glowing white light. Towards the middle of the dance floor, there is a much softer lavender that illuminates the immediate area.

Vandal and Saber organized and planned, and then helped with decorations. They will also be over seeing the event throughout the entire night. Vandal will be handling the reception desk and registration. We have Frenzy as our DJ in the Atrium, and Miko will be playing electric guitar for those who decide to visit the bar. Saber, Ironhide, and McCrane will be acting as security. They would be the best to contact should you have any.. safety concerns. Our bouncer, Drift, will be "on call" for security once his primary assignment is done. Kay organized and lead the decorating, and Ravage and McCrane helped with placing them. Melan and Joe gathered needed materials. Skidaddle is the one to blame for having the supply of available hats at the doors for any Cybertronian who tries to get past the one piece of attire rule.

Feel free to post in any sub-forum area you think your character would be present in (with or without an opening post), or merely tag others. Prose or action-spam is okay (and you may want to include this in your initial posts if you want others to tag you). Bonus: include links to garments your character may be wearing. This is entirely up to you! Have fun!

Make sure to add your character to the tags! (That's the registry.)

Barricade | Either Format

[personal profile] namesnotprowl 2013-02-23 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Once accouterments have been passed out to those that had ordered them, Barricade descends on the dance floor. It's been quite some time since he had this opportunity in his own body, and he is not going to waste it. Especially since there are still a number of people here he'd like to dance with.

His cane is easy enough to collapse and attach to his armor, which leaves him free to move. And does he ever; when he isn't dancing with someone, he is dancing anyway. A large part is martial arts moves and movements adapted from combat, sprinkled with moves borrowed from hip-hop styles and poplock. His armor shifts constantly to accommodate the moves and he alters it to the flow of the music almost automatically.

But really, it's just to get him between would-be dance partners.

It's hard not to miss Barricade's movements on the dance floor. He certainly looks like he knows what he's doing, but beyond that, he looks to be really enjoying himself. Maybe it's the simple pleasures, but seeing happy mechs is a thing that makes Wing happy.

The knight has a keen enough eye to pick out the martial roots of the other mech's movements too, which intrigue him. His own style has some of the same, but much more archaic Cybertronian roots and less influence from outside cultures.

Wing is between partners now too, just enjoying the flow of the music, when it takes him the ex-Decepticon's way.

"It's nice isn't it? To let loose?"

Barricade doesn't often get to do anything like this anymore. The last time had been nearly a year ago, in fact. And really... he'd run out of desire to, for a long while. But here and now, and with the right music, he can cut loose and it's wonderful.

His own Cybertron had had much less in the way of strong martial traditions, relying more on armed combat. It was part of why Barricade had found a certain attraction to the traditions on Earth. Some in particular leant themselves to a less violent application that turned out to be good stress relief when he couldn't get into a tousle.

He's twisting his way out of a waist-level spin kick - modified for close quarters to keep from accidentally kicking anyone - when he notices Wing coming over. Barricade shifts onto his feet, grinning.

"It is; been too long. How about you? Enjoyin' yourself?"
winged_knight: Used with permission, thank you~! (smile: profile)

Wing had plenty of opportunities to party in Crystal City. But in a way, not nearly as many reasons to appreciate them. Here, faced with more adversity, he's enjoying himself far more than he has in centuries.

It's amazing what perspective can do.

Wing is definitely watching with fascination. He's interested in body movements of all kind, from marital combat to elegant dancing. This looks like an interesting hybrid.

"I am, yes. It's a good reward after all the recent troubles." He grins. "So what was that you were just doing?"

"It is. And I'm sure no one c'n really complain, with the spread here." Alcohol and energon make everything better, at least for some people. If nothing else, dancing. Dancing makes everything better.

"Ah. That particular move was from Capoeira. 'S a martial art from Earth. I learned while I was there, a while back. Modified the moves for tighter quarters, of course."

No need to go all-out unless a fight breaks out, after all. And it's better to hold things in reserve a little bit anyway.

Wing would have to agree on all counts. "I hope not, I think we'd be hard pressed to do better!"

He was already keen to the conversation before, but he visibly perks up at the martial art comment. "Do they have a lot of different martial styles on Earth?"

[personal profile] namesnotprowl 2013-03-13 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Looks like Barricade has found one of Wing's weaknesses. Unfortunately martial arts are one of the few things he actually liked about Earth.

"Loads. Karate, Kung Fu, T'ai Chi, Sambo, Muay Thai... Most nations have at least one or two unique t'them." And he's picked up a number of them, himself.
ichooseboth: (CURSE YOUR SUDDEN BETRAYAL)

You asked for it~

[personal profile] ichooseboth 2013-02-28 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Prime didn't entirely intend to end up on the dance floor. Really, he's only skirting the edge of it, and only to pass around a crowd to make his way back to the bar.

He isn't actively searching for anyone at this point, so Optimus isn't paying much attention; just enough to avoid awkwardly bumping into people. Getting caught on the dance floor isn't exactly on his 'to do' list. So he doesn't notice the dark mech in the lower lighting as he passes by, and he doesn't realize his cloak is catching on a particularly spiny bit of Barricade's back armor until he is several strides away and suddenly has a his magnetic brooch and mesh fabric digging into his throat and nearly sending him stumbling.

So much for stealth.
namesnotprowl: (Bzuh?!)

Mwahahahah excellent 8D

[personal profile] namesnotprowl 2013-02-28 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Barricade is in the beginnings of a particularly tricky move when he feels something snag on his back plating. He only just catches himself and tries to twist to get whatever it is off his spines. That thing happens to be a cloak... which happens to be attached to Optimus Prime.

Well. This is fortuitous.

"Elita had mentioned mesh cloth like this," he pauses, nabbing onto the piece of cloak before finally pulling it off and offering it back to Optimus, "but I hadn't been sure if I believed her before now. Hello Optimus."

You are not escaping now~
ichooseboth: (Bwuh?)

[personal profile] ichooseboth 2013-03-02 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
"...Ah, Barricade. I apologize - I didn't see you there."

He coughed, accepting the fabric with a nod. He resettled the cloak off from his throat and replaced the brooch back where it belonged.

"Thank you- you've talked to Elita then?" He was a bit surprised, but he had seen the femme earlier and eventually scored a dance or three. He glanced back down at his cloak and shrugged, coincidentally resettling it further.

Much better.

"It's just a little something I've had since Axiom. Part of an old costume."

[personal profile] namesnotprowl 2013-03-02 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"S'all right. Paint's a little less obvious tonight an all."

He went jet black for fashion, and apparently for being a dance ninja. And the question gets a nod out of him. "I have. Even helped her with he accessories f'r the evening. She's an interesting mech. And it looks good on you. Not every mech could pull somethin' like that off."

Point in fact most of the mechs he knows couldn't handle that. Barricade can't help a bit of a grin, straightening up a bit and cocking his hip just so.

"I hope y'weren't planning on slipping off the dance floor just yet, though.
ichooseboth: (OMP CEILING RATCHET NO)

GIT HIM C8

[personal profile] ichooseboth 2013-03-07 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, I see."

Oh.

That look does not bode well.

"Thank you. And yes, Elita is a terribly charming individual."

He is completely besotted with her, but that is besides the point. Barricade no he is danced out for the evening. He used up all his swagger on her.

"Actually, I was just planning a final trip to the bar before heading out for the evening..."

He might be settling into a defensive stance, ready to back away with graceful deflection.
namesnotprowl: (Huff)

CAN DO ::3

[personal profile] namesnotprowl 2013-03-07 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"That she is."

Ooh. Barricade sees that stance change good sir, but he is a stubborn mech and will have enough charm for both of them. Besides, he can't just let Optimus get away without him asking. It goes against tradition!

... Admittedly the tradition is less than a year old but still.

He hums and looks almost disappointed. "Don't tell me I missed out on gettin' a dance with you."

He would be ever so sad.
ichooseboth: (Bwuh?)

:3!

[personal profile] ichooseboth 2013-03-11 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
"...Er."

Optimus freezes in place, antennae twitching back as he fights a cringe.

On one hand, he is tired and out of practice with these sorts of social functions. Dancing with random officials was never pleasant, and other than dancing with Elita he has never really sought it out...various Axiom holidays notwithstanding. On the other, Barricade is a perfectly nice mech; and it is a blatant offer and it would be rude to refuse.

"I suppose...a quick dance..."

He's doomed.
namesnotprowl: (Looming)

::3 Poor Optimus

[personal profile] namesnotprowl 2013-03-13 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
A-ha. Gotcha. Barricade flicks his wings up, lips spreading in a wide grin. As if he really needs an excuse to be out on the dance floor, but a dance partner was definitely a reason. Especially this one.

"You are an absolute darling, Optimus. Promise not t'detain you too long~"

And that he'll only gloat a little over it.
ichooseboth: (Ya feelin' lucky punk?)

He deserves it :V

[personal profile] ichooseboth 2013-03-19 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
"...Right. Of course."

Hiding his resigned sigh, he still makes the proper bow and offers Barricade an arm.

If he is going to do this, he's not going to be rude about it, after all.
namesnotprowl: (How YOU Doin'?)

At least it won't be awful for him? XD

[personal profile] namesnotprowl 2013-03-19 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Barricade bows in return, taking the offered arm almost gently in his claws. Optimus is at least getting a good - if occasionally overly-friendly - dance partner for his last go?

He'll try not to gloat too much about this later.

"Don't worry, I'll be gentle."
ichooseboth: (Sideglance)

You say that NOW...

[personal profile] ichooseboth 2013-03-19 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Optimus snorted, almost earning Barricade a laugh.

"I didn't doubt you would."

It was ridiculous, but Optimus carefully took Barricade's- claws, and settled into a starting position with a raise optic ridge.

Will you lead, or should he?
namesnotprowl: (Amusement)

Pfff oh Prime, what did you EVER do to deserve this?

[personal profile] namesnotprowl 2013-03-19 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, some folks do worry. All these claws and all." He grins, settling into position automatically.

Prime not being concerned about Barricade's... extreme pointiness... is surprising and refreshing, if nothing else. He tips his head slightly, starting to move one foot to start.

Unless Optimus has objections, he's happy to take the lead.
ichooseboth: (um. hi?)

HE'S PAYING FOR THE SINS OF OTHER PRIMES ;-;

[personal profile] ichooseboth 2013-03-25 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
He manages an awkward smile.

"I've dealt with far worse."

Optimus allows Barricade to lead easily enough; unconcerned by the claws or not, the frame differences are enough to throw him off his game a bit. All the extra joints and open bits of armor leave him unsure as to where exactly is appropriate to place his other hand, but he follows along gamely enough.
namesnotprowl: (Shadowed)

... OPTIMUS YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THAT, THERE'S TOO MUCH BAD ;A;

[personal profile] namesnotprowl 2013-03-25 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
He grins.

"That's almost flattering."

Since Barricade knows what he looks like, after all. And has plating with slightly more gaps than other mechs... or a lot more gaps. He twitches a few bits of plating to indicate - it's best to put your hands here.
ichooseboth: (Could this mask get any bigger?)

Nope he is doooomed

[personal profile] ichooseboth 2013-04-01 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Almost," he agrees wryly, quickly adjusting his hands.

"Your design is more easy to get used to than you may expect." It helps that he's had the practice of several years now, to get used to the varying frame designs of differing worlds.

Once he adjusts to the pattern of Barricade's movement, it is far easier for him to match the other mech, and the dance goes far more smoothly as he follows Barricade's lead.
namesnotprowl: (Give Me That)

Doooomed for forever apologize for all that face-taking

[personal profile] namesnotprowl 2013-04-01 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"You've had a little longer t'get used to it than others have," he teases lightly. He'd gotten used to the dubious looks about his... well, looks, but Optimus's assertion gets a grin out of him regardless.

Barricade is definitely pleased with Optimus's progress. Much more smoothly than he'd previously expected. "And you are pretty good at this." It's refreshing to have a dance partner that's able to follow from the get-go.
ichooseboth: (ROBOTS LOVE 'MERICA :V)

That is a lot of apologizing...

[personal profile] ichooseboth 2013-04-13 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
"True," Optimus agreed easily enough, settling further into the rhythm as his nerves calmed. He's enjoying it more than expected; perhaps because simply watching tyran mechs move is a fascinating experience all on it's own.

"I have something of an unfair advantage in that regard."
namesnotprowl: (Injured)

Barricade is sorry his Optimus is so horrible

[personal profile] namesnotprowl 2013-04-13 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll hardly complain about it though." Barricade does tend to move more than other mechs, plating flicking up and flattening down with his movements, interior wiring and circuitry visible through the gaps.

"Maybe. But that's not always a bad thing~"

Foolish Prime!
