[OPEN] Haven Games and Air Show!
WHERE: Games Caldera, Nexus Territory and other parts of Haven
WHEN: Starting Friday (7/05) and running for three days.
WHAT: A festival of games not unlike the Highland Games with a 'junkyard eclectic' carnival feel.
WARNINGS: None, but subject to change.
((ooc: Putting this up early since I'm not sure I'll be able to on Friday. And it gives people a chance to get sub-threads up.))
Over the past few weeks there's been a bustle of activity in an area southeast of the Hub, deeper in Nexus territory, within a crater the First Forged has granted use of for a very specific purpose: the first Haven Games and Air Show.
Now the time has come. Signs are posted on the Link, in every temple and at the Hub, all pointing the way to this location. A path, worn smooth and wide enough for both multiple vehicles, leads from the Hub to the north edge of the Caldera, winding its way down into the crater's basin with twists and turns. That's only one of many paths though--albeit the largest--that allow access to the floor of the crater which serves as the primary grounds for the festival of games, with events spread throughout its large expanse.
Nearest to that wide road entrance is what looks like a start or finish line with a staging area off to the side, set aside for the Scavenger Race. Along the south-east crater wall lies a shooting range, with safety precautions taken into account, where the Marksmanship Competition will occur. To the south-west lies a straight track of sorts and a make-shift sled--something like a barge with skids--filled with useless items from the Junk Pile. Obviously this is where the Hauling Challenge will take place.
The rock walls of the entire north-western section of the crater have been carefully sculpted into basic stadium seating, giving a clear view of the sky mostly unmarred by the Lambda. There is a small platform stage for presenting at the foot of stadium stands, dead center, and far above it on the lip of the crater a special place of honor has been crafted. A seat larger than the rest reserved for Nexus Prime himself, as promised, bracketed by tall pennant flags of tattered blue cloth. It appears that various events could make use of this space, attendees will have to check the program and see.
Interspersed throughout these areas are smaller booths, tents or roped off areas with simpler games like ring toss, potato sack racing or kites to fly, all unmanned but waiting for visitors to start playing. There's even a few areas where people can pick up simple refreshments. Much of what's here is clearly re-purposed from the Junk Pile; very little in the way of precious raw building materials was used.

So when the Dinobot is finished Wing catches him as he's leaving the platform. "That was an amazing display! You have great mastery over fire and fly so well!"
no subject
He bounces on his clawed feet, quite proud of himself as he looks up at Wing. "Me flier; is what me do, ever since me made. Fire too! Have lots of time to practice back on island at home. Me glad you like!"
No, really. He's a show-off and likes the applause.
no subject
"And a superb flier at that! I really enjoyed the end, you really had me going for a second! The fire--and the lights--I think those were the best parts though." He grins, happy for the subject and glad to see other mechs in Haven happy as well. "How long have you been practicing all that?"
no subject
"Fire is first thing me learn to do after being made. Him bucket-head teach; only useful thing. Thought lights would be good touch." Swoop rubs the back of his crest, chirping. He's never had anyone to talk to about flying before getting here. "Ooh, me practicing since offer to do show. Drop mostly; everything else me know already. Learned from birds on island. Flew all the time."
no subject
And noteworthy this performance certainly was, Wing hopes it'll be remembered throughout Haven for sometime to come. "The lights definitely were a nice touch, they made nice light trails in the dark and you were much easier to see." And he's almost afraid to ask this but... "Bucket-head?"
Wing will talk about flying with anyone, and fly with anyone who can really, so long as they're peaceable. "Well your efforts certainly paid off, that was a spectacular performance. So you almost entirely self-taught, you had no flight instructor at all?" That alone is a marvel if true.
no subject
"Me hoped so. No can tell when them on, and all. And ah... him name Megatron. Me Swoop just call bucket-head. Him build Dinobots, where me from. Other than that, him big jerk." Swoop waves one hand dismissively and churrs. Nope, he's still not over half the island being blown to bits.
Luckily for Wing, Swoop is mostly peaceable. Especially with other fliers; there had been so few back home that he knew of... unless they're competing. "Uh-huh. No one to learn from. Autobots no fly back home. Mostly kind of jerks anyway. Decepticons fly, but definitely jerks. Would rather bash them than learn from." The only place he could learn was from the birds, and television.
no subject
He lets out a laugh--probably TOO loud--at Swoop's description of Megatron. It doesn't matter which Megatron, they all seem to fit from the ones he's seen. "I'd say that's an accurate description of most Megatrons all right. None of them are very nice."
Peaceable can be open to interpretation: Wing does like a good bit of chase and friendly challenge. He just don't like getting shot at with the intent to do real harm. "The Autobots and Decepticons can be rather like that where I come from too. Or they were, during the war. For being self taught you have incredible talent. It comes naturally to you, I can tell."
no subject
He starts slightly at the laugh, but grins. "Him white one here, not so bad. Other ones need good bashing, maybe. Learn to stop being so dumb." And evil. Those homewreckers.
Swoop thankfully isn't equipped with guns. Though he can get pretty nasty with the fire breath. But only when he needs to. He doesn't just torch people for the fun of it. Mostly... "Your's too? Ooh, me sorry. No very nice, jerks all over place. Heh! Me always pteradon. And pteradons always fly. Feet too tiny, no good for walking." Admittedly that's what robot mode is for.
no subject
"Oh the one with the blue brand? Yes he's quite nice. The others though, I don't think bashing will do any good really." More likely it'll just lead to more bashing.
Well Wing has a certain talent for deflecting normal fire,
especially when he has a full panel body shot to pose for, thanks to a fire retardant polish he used to use in Crystal City, so a little fire in the name of fun would probably be okay. Wing nods, thankful for the commiseration. "They got too caught up in their war. So much fighting, they forgot got to live. A pteradon? That's what your alt is called? I'm a jet, I don't even have feet, just grav thrusters and landing skids."no subject
"You sure? Is pretty good for beating sense into other bots. Except Grimlock; that never work on him. Mine at least." The silent treatment worked loads better on him.
Swoop would be so glad to hear that. People usually get so mad about him torching things. Especially if those things are them, even on accident. "Still jerks in peace - war over where me from. Definitely now. And uh-huh. Is kind of dinosaur - them live long time ago on Earth, were very cool. Jets really cool too. What... grav thrusters?" Yeeeeah, they watched more cooking and gardening programs than they did plane shows. Oops?
no subject
"I imagine it is. But most bots would bash you back and then there'd be fighting all the time. And I'm pretty sure Megatron could probably bash most mechs flat." As in dead, unfortunately.
Well if careless Decepticons named Deadlock can get away with accidentally spraying fire at Wing, Swoop certainly can. "This can be true, unfortunately. Are you from the same world Blurr is? I'd heard their war had ended. Ours did as well, but not before Cybertron was destroyed." Wing laughs a little at the question. "An anti-gravity repulsion system that helps me hover over the ground. I'll have to find myself some books on dinosaurs, they sound interesting."
no subject
Swoop waves one hand. "Yeah, yeah, me know. Besides, me told lots already 'no bashing people'. But if them really deserve it, me no make promises." By which he mostly means 'if they insult him to his face'.
"Uh-huh. Same as him Blurr and her Sari. Very small, very loud human. Me saw him truck-bot - uhm. Optimus Prime - drag him Megatron off to somewhere. Them probably go back to Cybertron." And as far as Swoop is concerned, they're welcome to it. He's not the biggest fan of car and truck robots, and a whole planet of nothing but them would drive him nuts. "Oooh. That make sense, me guess. And you should! Them really cool. Me know tons about dinosaurs."
no subject
"Well if you need to defend yourself then by all means. It's just that some people don't understand what excessive use of violence means." Namely TARN. He gives a disgruntled huff and his pinions flick.
Wing nods, the bot's size and leaner configuration seemed to match the hallmark of that universe. Wing is NOT going to think about what Optimus dragging Megatron off somewhere means. If it was the other way around it'd be different and obviously nefarious, but--NO, he's just NOPE out of that thought and run with them going back to Cyberton. Yup that's a good idea.
"So dinosaurs are Earth creatures yes?" Wing's maybe a little fascinated, he's learned a lot about Earth but there still seems to be so much he doesn't know, not to mention the differences between universes. It boggles his processor sometimes.
no subject
"Someone you know?" Swoop can guess at that much, given the huff and the emphasis on some. You don't do those things without having some amount of familiarity with them.
Wing you are reading far, far too much into Swoop's words. Then again, Swoop doesn't know what happened either. Just that Optimus and the other Autobots left and they had the Decepticons with them. And good riddance, because that meant that the Dinobots still had about half of their island left to live on. No more explosions or giant robots to ruin things on their home. Now he just has to get back to said home before Grimlock notices he left.
"Uh-huh. Lived long time ago; them long gone by time me show up. But them ruled earth for long time." Swoop can't blame Wing for being interested, really. Dinosaurs are really awesome. And he can only assume that most Cybertronians don't know much about them, since they were extinct before humans ever showed up.
no subject
They probably deserved it."UN-fortunately, yes. There's a mech here named Tarn. He believes it's his job to punish Decepticons but really he's just a terrorist for his own private cause." Oops, someone is obviously disgruntled. There aren't many mechs Wing dislikes outright but Tarn is one of them.
He does that all the time, read innuendo into things. It makes committee and council meetings far more interesting, but embarrassing if his self-control slips. AHEM. But having an island to yourself without being bothered by Autobots or Decepticons? That's the way to go in Wing's mind. Sometimes he wishes for something like that here.
"Huh. So if they were long dead when you arrived how did you configure yourself in their image? And they must have been pretty powerful if they were the rulers of Earth. What happened to them? Did they...die to war like we almost did?" He certainly hopes not, but Wing is also assuming they're at least as intelligent as Swoop is. One thing is right, he certainly knows very little about dinosaurs.
