too busy working out to
WHO: Kagerou & OPEN
WHERE: ALL AROUND HAVEN || Police Station || Trion's Temple
WHEN: From TFP!Ratchet's attack -- to now!
WHAT: After his outburst on the Network, Kagerou is rather desperate to prove himself as a capable police officer, hunting nonstop for a fugitive he probably has no hope of locating. It goes about as well as you can expect.
WARNINGS: None now.
Note: If you could put the date and location in the subject, that would be awesome!
[He's probably become a familiar sight around the Haven skies of late. A shadow ghosting across the stars, or lurking in the darker places behind buildings. Scans are running constantly. No part of the ground goes unseen. Guilt is driving him, mostly. He wants to make things right. Wants to make amends.]
[Make it up to the bot he thinks he's failed.]
[But there are some areas he won't visit. Some places etched in his mind as too terrible to return to. He won't be seen near Liege's temple. Nor Megatronus'. Everywhere else, he is a near-constant presence. Look up. You might see him!]
~
[Even so, he can't be everywhere. Every so often, he'll return to the police station. Make reports, they said. Check in, they said. And so, in between sweeps of the Haven, he'll stop at the station. Even if no one is inside, or present, he'll offer up his report via datapad, leaving it on a desk.]
[Nothing, it usually says. Nothing unusual reported.]
[And he treats every report of that nature, like a failure. His shoulders slump a little more, and he leaves the station looking more dejected, though his expression remains as closed and neutral as possible. If someone is present in the station, he'll stop to speak with them, of course. But otherwise, he's in and out in a matter of minutes.]
~
[Rarer still, he returns to Trion's temple. To the room he and Kay and now... now another... are sharing. It's usually late when he does drag himself back. He's always low on fuel, low on rest. He'll all but stumble through the temple, nodding to passersby, or whoever happens to be on his way.]
[He will return to the room for only as long as it takes for him to refuel. To make certain Kay is all right. To make certain nothing terrible has happened.]
[And then he's gone again. Weary, frustrated, and wracked with too much guilt. But pushing onward all the same.]

I'm the one with stealth systems. Spy circuits. Before you came... I was the only one. They made it seem as if it were my duty.
[His hand withdraws as Shadowmaru's lower. Though he stays nearby.]
It won't happen. I wouldn't do that again. [Not to you.] I would have called if I found anything.
no subject
You better call me when and if you ever find him. [His says, his voice stern before he tilts his chin up, clearing his vocalizer.]
Because I'm not going to risk losing you again, Kagerou. Not while I'm around this time.
no subject
I will. You. And the others.
[His head was still bowed, but it comes up again, at the last part. And he does move forward, gripping his fingers now.]
You won't. I promise. It's not like that... it's only surveillance.
no subject
Shadowmaru nods as he holds onto his counterpart's hand and peers up at him.]
Whatever you do. Just don't engage him. If you do just...[He offers a small fleeting smile to him.] Just hold him off until I can get to you, alright?
no subject
I'll do my best. You know I will. Living has become more important, lately.
[He looks down at the cube, swirling it idly.]
I should... head back out there.
no subject
But he shakes his head as he pulls his hand back and rests his hands on his shoulders. Gently, he walks them both around in a circle, so that they trade places.]
Nope. It's my turn now. You need to get some proper rest. You've been at it for nearly a full day. Besides, I need to stretch my wings for once.
no subject
But you don't -- Do you know what you're looking for? Or where?
There are places you shouldn't go -- not alone.
no subject
[He taps his chin as he thinks.] A blue head crest with red optics. And he's pretty big. I have spoken to him once before. And well, now I see his true colors.
[Shadowmaru soon holds up a second finger.]
I've heard the Badlands are... bad. Isn't that the only place I should avoid?
no subject
[Well, there goes his first argument. Even if it does make anxiety spark through his AI at the thought of that bot speaking with Shadowmaru -- being interested in him... He shakes his head.]
[His wings flare up, that vague sort of panic flitting through him. He should remain calm and refuel like an adult, but nope.]
You can't go anywhere near them. Not at all. They'll take you if you get too close.
And Megatronus -- don't go near his temple. His or Liege's. Please.
no subject
[Why does that sound familiar? Then it clicks.]
But that's the temple that Gunmax is under. [Shadowmaru says, pointing to the glyph on his own shoulder.]
What's so bad about it? And Liege too?
[He had not heard anything bad about those temples.]
no subject
[He has to pause. And sit down. He should have refueled before this dramatic speech, but hey, he was distracted.]
... he needs to be careful. Because we can't trust either Megatronus. Or Liege.
[His wings flatten against his back, and he turns his face away.]
They both keep monsters in their temples.
no subject
[He tenses but soon eases himself to relax as his counterpart sits. Shadowmaru takes up that fallen cube and frowns, seeing that most of it had spilled. He manages to grab another cube and sets it in Kagerou's hand.]
First of all, drink. Second, I've dealt with plenty of monsters and aliens. They can't be all that bad.
no subject
[He says it very firmly, reaching out to touch his friend's plating as he sits, in reassurance.]
[But he'll do as told, after a moment, pausing long enough to take in about half the cube before speaking again.]
They're worse than anything any of the others had seen... Some of the living robots even said so.
They aren't just criminals, Shadowmaru. They're worse.
no subject
They're that bad, huh? [He rubs his chin before he lightly knocks a knuckle against Kagerou's shoulder.]
I'll steer clear of those places. But you need to rest, alright?
no subject
[His voice gets very quiet, as he says it. But that's not a conversation to have right now. He'll talk about it later. Or... never.]
[He grips the other's hand for a moment, once more running a thumb along the back of it.]
... As long as you promise to come back. Just as you left.
[Don't get hurt.]
no subject
It seems Kay's finally staggered in from a long day of running around Cybertron. Only to see Kagerou and...someone else in her room.]
...Stumpy? If that's you, you really had a growth spurt.
no subject
And he hears someone walk in.
Shadowmaru turns his attention to the human, walking inside, his hands pulling away from Kagerou's. But he's still kneeling as he turns himself towards the human. He visibly flinches at the word 'Stumpy'. The BP unit stares down at himself, twisting his body as if to find what was 'stumpy' about him.]
I'm not Stumpy! I--
...Wait a second. [He glances over at Kagerou.] Is this Kay?
no subject
[His head snaps up the moment someone nears the room, but he settles immediately upon hearing the voice. There's even a smile, quiet, amused and infinitely fond, on his face, when he hears her, even as he settles a hand on the other ninja's shoulder, to calm the indignation.]
Kay--
[Oops, they were talking at once. He shifts, to enable the girl to see him better. To Shadowmaru, he nods, still smiling.]
It is. [And to her--] Kay. Come here. I want you to meet someone.
[Even though he has no doubt she'll know who it is.]
no subject
It's...familiar. Squinting eyes travel up and down Shadowmaru as she reaches Kagerou, almost like a little bird hopping over to its parent.
But then...eyes shoot open wide.]
Wait. Kagerou is this--?
[Her head snaps to him, almost completely shocked.]
Is this your friend? The one you told me about?
no subject
I hope he's told you good things about me.
[And he gives Kagerou a pointed look, jokingly of course.]
no subject
[He's lowered a hand, curling it around her, gently. At the same time, his head is leaning against the other ninja's shoulder -- in contact with them both. Feeling both presences so close.]
[... he's never felt this calm and secure since he arrived here. The word "family</>" flits through his AI, and the feeling of warmth only increases.]
This is Shadowmaru.
[He glances at the other ninja, and knocks his head lightly into that shoulder with a quiet clunk.]
You say that as if there were bad things at all to say.
no subject
I knew it. I knew it, Kagerou! See, I told you! I told you he'd come!
[Her arms wrap around that hand in a hug, squeezing it gently, before letting go and running to the other, hands behind her back.]
You should have heard him. He wouldn't stop talking about you--I told him that this world has a way of bringing people in if you really want it.
[Those hands go to her hips.]
Guess I was right. I'm Kay!!
no subject
[Shadowmaru looks at the exchange between the two of them, his chest rising in pride. He was so glad Kagerou had the company of someone like this. Someone who could make him smile.
He kneels down on one knee and peers down at Kay.]
I guess he wished pretty hard huh? [He side glances up at Kagerou before he returns his attention to Kay.]
It's a pleasure to meet you, Kay. Hope you don't mind room for one more in this room of yours.
no subject
[Just by finally, after so many months, being able to speak with one another.]
So you did, Kay. So you did.
[There's little more for him to say, on the subject. He remains quiet, his expression something warm and incredibly happy. It's important to him that they meet, that they get to know one another.]
[So he sits there, between them, watching them both, and it feels as if his AI might actually burst from this happiness.]
[Family.]
no subject
[She giggles, immediately throwing her arms around Shadowmaru's leg armor and squeezing as tight as she can.]
Welcome to Cybertron, Mr. Shadowmaru.
[It's the least she can do for him, and somehow...everything seems complete. She only just met Shadowmaru now, but there's a weird...comforting feeling about all of this.
The feeling's mutual, Kagerou. It's family.]
