The Worst Field Trip of All Time
WHO: Megatronus & the Badlands volunteers
WHERE: At the edge of Haven, then onwards to the center of the Badlands offshoot.
WHEN: Sunday/Monday
WHAT: Now that they have their assault team, it's time to put an end to the recent influx of monsters.
WARNINGS: Violence against robotic centipedes.
Whether they hear it from Megatronus himself or through one of his Acolytes, all of the volunteer fighters are offered the same information: a time, a place, and instructions on what to expect from the Badlands. More of the monsters, surely, and the Call of the darkness is an ever-present threat. Stay within sight of the group at all times or risk being lost forever.
The only thing left to do now is make it to the rendez-vous point.
[[OOC note: tag in under the two sub-threads already provided: a more relaxed one for pre-fight chatter, and the actual fight thread. You can participate in both, or just do one and handwave your character's involvement in the other.]]

Cliffjumper knows he shouldn't be overly amused at how the bomb going off when it's swallowed is vaguely similar in appearance to a human burp, but slag if it wasn't a brief moment of amusement even as the giant critter then shrieks fit to burst his audials.
Swerving around and under some flailing legs longer than some mechs (definitely longer than he was tall), Cliffjumper considered and then pulled out his glass gas gun again.
::Gimme a few minutes, and I should get some spots that'll let us get at the armour more easily.:: He doubts the centipede would consider a wash of silvery smoke something "dangerous", but you never know.
no subject
He dives aside, rolling on his shoulder to come up facing a few of the legs, as Cliffjumper comms.
::Good for me.:: Meanwhile, he'll distract the thing by removing a few of its toes. Not all combat is glamorous...
no subject
Glamorous or not, since the thing had turned to lunge at the annoyance flittering about, at least Drift hacking away at some legs makes the giant demon turn downwards, letting Cliffjumper dart up and down, thoroughly spreading the gas around before he swerves away.
Throwing a wave of fire from his hands as if this wasn't a new power, Cliffjumper glanced down at Drift to see if he'd need some help or not.
::Okay, give it a klik and the gas should've settled, then just go for those spots!:: The ones that already creaked and crunched as the critter moved, sounding vaguely like pieces of glass rubbing against each other.
wow i am slow
He can feel the heat from the blast of fire against his back, turning to admire the effect, before launching back toward the monster, blades ready to strike.
::Got it.:: As well as it can be got.
that is fiineee
grinning briefly at where and how Drift landed, Cliffjumper nodded, mostly to himself, and shot away, pulling out his cannon. Fire or not, this was his more favoured weapon, and they would want to get beneath or crack the plating, not just melt it.
He does, however, pause as he catches the flash of Drift flying in the air back towards the monster. Probably should let the mech strike and not deal with a unpredictably heaving, lashing monster.
no subject
The problem with Drift and teamwork is he tends to rush in himself. It's a thing. It's not about glory or anything, he just gets slightly too focused.
His blades land on the armor, punching through, the thing heaving, spewing out gouts of yellow-green fluids as Drift rolls off to one side.
no subject
And while he has to veer sharply off to the side away from those unpleasant fountains, Cliffjumper judges he should have enough time...
::Watch for flyin' shards. They're gonna be brittle, but even somethin' like glass hurts with enough speed.:: As he'd had to experience a few times. The cannon shot he's been holding off is released, and while the plasma melts some of the shattering and fractures armour, other shards go flying.
no subject
But Drift's cool, so he'll do that classic 'walking away while things blow up behind him' thing.
Before, that is, whirling to attack one of the limbs that sweeps forward, aiming for Cliffjumper. Well, small red Autobot, looks like you got the Big Bad's personal attention.
no subject
"Gah! Fraggin' great..." Steadying his wobble, Cliffjumper shoots upwards, having to avoid another few limbs but at least its attention is once again partly distracted by Drift. So he'll just aim on getting high enough and pull out the cannon to aim at a completely other part of the giant critter's body, nowhere near the head.
that is the best icon ever. of all time.
Drift sees the thing turn toward Cliffjumper, boosting his speed to drive one blade in between the monster's armor plates. Distraction, maybe. He hopes.
comics can be pretty wonderful about providing perfect icons sometimes~
Since Cliffjumper has, foolishly, turned his back when changing the aim of his cannon, he completely misses the oncoming danger, but certainly doesn't miss the slash of air against his back or the push forward as the creature rears when Drift lodges a sword between its armour.
"... That was close. Thanks!" yelling over his shoulder, Cliffjumper quickly fires the cannon again and then darts sharply off to the side to be out of the way as the bolt of plasma hits a third down its body, exploding on contact and warping armour plates.
The way the thing's suddenly whriting, Cliffjumper can't help the slight widening of his optics as he turns away from realising how big this thing actually is and faces the head again.
no subject
He falls back with Cliffjumper as the thing rears up against them.
"I think, maybe....we need a plan." That would be...your job. Drift's not really a planning kinda mech.
no subject
This is the mech, after all, who thought it a perfectly reasonable idea to yell 'Geronimo' as he jumped on the negative polarity Slugfest while he and Sideswipe were hunting Wheeljack's Dinobots.
"Either we fall back to the big guns, or concentrate further down or somethin'." Because Megatronus, at least, would probably attack the creature directly sooner or later.
