Just a little spar between two friends.

WHO: Ventus, Melan Blue and anybody who want to watch.
WHERE: Somewhere in the Junk Pile
WHEN: Today...?
WHAT: Melan had promised a spar to Ventus. He keeps his promise. Also, some exercise will be good for him. Not getting hurt for more than one week? That's not normal for Melan Blue!
WARNINGS: No doubt that some purple blood will be flying. Maybe some red too.

Melan always kept his promises. Marin had taught him that they were really important, especially when you made them to a friend or someone you liked. And the Knight liked Ventus. The young human reminded him of his friends, in the funny world: like them he was just so... accepting. It was refreshing to see another human not afraid of him.

And this place was dangerous. Melan had seen the strange volcano not quite erupting around Solus' temple, and he had managed to catch a glimpse of one of the "monsters" too. A young human should be protected, and since Ventus had a weapon and... magic... He just needed training, not a constant protection like Marin.

The GunSwordman had enough energy to take the time to fight Ventus and see where he needed to improve his skills: Melan wasn't a very good teacher like Pyon, but he was sure the human could learn a few things with him. Of course it wouldn't be as harsh as his own training, but in this world you needed to be strong, or a strong bodyguard. True the Knight was strong, but food was in relative short supplies here and he needed to conserve his energy: he couldn't be always available to protect those who needed it.

That's why he had sent a short message to Ventus earlier, with his coordinates, asking if the young human was available, and if he still wanted to spar with him: Ventus had answered by the affirmative, and was on his way. Melan was patiently waiting for him, standing in the middle of some flat area in the Junk Pile, away from the Badlands so they wouldn't be interrupted by a monster. Though monster hunting could be considered training too.

The boy was definitely eager to meet up with Melan. He finished taking of things at the farm, making sure the chickens had water before he summoned his glider and flew off to the Junk Pile where his sparring partner was waiting.

Melan had chosen a good spot so far as Ventus could see. Swinging around to come in for a landing, he hopped down from his glider, the device vanishing in a flash of light once he set foot upon the ground.

"Hey! Hope I didn't keep you waiting long!"

The boy nodded, taking a step back out of reflex as he found a sword pointing at him. He lifted a fist to strike the circular jewel on his shoulder guard.

There really wasn't anything fancy to it. One moment the boy was engulfed in light, and in the next it had faded and he was wearing armor from head to foot. His keyblade appeared in his right hand, and by the looks of it, it seemed he preferred to wield it in a reverse sort of fashion.

"Ready!" Ventus voiced, shifting into an at-ready stance.

The boy gripped his weapon tighter as Melan made his charge. He moved forward as the distance was quickly closed between them, dashing to meet the other boldly despite the obvious difference of size.

Still, speed was Ventus' forte. He was taught to use his size to his advantage, and it had come to him naturally. Once he came within range of Melan, he lashed out with his Keyblade.

Their blades meeting soundly, Ventus knew in a test of strength, he wouldn't be able to hold against Melan- he could tell that from the first swing. It was a little like facing Terra.

Instead of trying to brace against the other sword, the boy let himself be pushed back with the force Melan put behind his blade. Once he found a direction to go, he slipped beneath it, rolling on the ground and to the side. As he came up on his feet again, he pulled his weapon around to swing in a wide, horizontal arc.

The thing with fighting with a blade was that you had to get close for combat. Ventus knew to strike fast and pull out of the way as he could. He quickly moved to get out of Melan's immediate range once he'd spent his swing.

Obviously he wasn't only dealing with hand-to-hand combat here, however. As he turned, the boy saw as Melan brought up his other arm to fire- whoops..! With a gasp, he brought up his Keyblade to deflect, the first one more out of luck, the second only a little better, but the third came too close for comfort as he was forced back by the other two shots.

Twisting around, Ventus thrust a hand down towards the ground to keep his balance as he moved. So Melan had advantage over distance too. If he wanted to get close enough to strike again with his Keyblade, then Ventus knew he had to counter those shots.

Light coalesced at the tip of his Keyblade as he brought it up, spinning it to point in his opponent's direction. He sent a fiery ball blazing towards Melan.

Ventus had meant to use Fira as a distraction, and having darted almost immediately after it to try and close the distance between them, he gasped as Melan was suddenly right in front of him.

     "Whoa-!"

He barely managed to ring his Keyblade up in time, catching the strike squarely that it sent him flying to the side. The boy went crashing into another pile, wincing within his helmet. That would have been more painful had he not been wearing armor at all.

Ventus began to shove away from the pile of random junk, and once he was certain of his footing, he broke into a dash towards Melan. He pulled his Keyblade around, shouting as he flung another magical attack. Rather than flames, a blade of wind curved towards the armored Knight. The boy himself suddenly diverged from a frontal charge, aiming to try striking from the other side as his Aerora attack came flying from the opposite direction.

They clashed again, but at least Ventus was ready for it. He only had one weapon, so having it caught up against Melan's gun put him in a difficult position when the Knight still had his own sword to strike with.

Ventus pushed away from the gun, a desperate attempt to get himself clear of Melan's blade. He already knew the moment he broke away that he wouldn't be able to avoid it, and indeed, had it been with its edge, it could have done a lot more damage to him.

It struck just across his left shoulder as he couldn't get his Keyblade around to intercept in time. Skidding back, Ventus dug his heels into the ground so he wouldn't be sent any further. His free hand touches the rocky floor briefly, counter balance to his next charge. This time he lept- quite an amazing height at that, twisting his body around as he put its full momentum into his strike as he brought Wayward Wind around and down towards Melan.

This one wasn't necessarily magic, although when it came to such elemental affinities, wind naturally suited Ventus best. His Keyblade flashed as the boy swung it to deflect the shots, determined to keep on course.

He spun around with his weapon once he'd come within range of Melan, and with how he bore his weapon, it was easier to make slashing strikes than thrusts.

He hadn't noticed it before, but now that he did, it was impossible for Ventus to ignore the wound inflicted on Melan. It proved enough of a distraction that he almost didn't react on time when the Knight came at him again.

The boy lifted his Keyblade- but found no blade to block as Melan switched tactics. "-!" It was a bad angle to hope to evade, but nevertheless, he tried to pull his blade back so he could block what he could of any shots made his way. There was no way he was going to be completely successful at this point, however.

It would have made much more of a difference had he not been so close. At this range, Ventus could only hope to brace himself for the worst.

The first blast nearly knocked his Keyblade away, providing a clear shot for the second. And fly he did, crashing almost headlong into one of the taller mounds of junk bordering their appointed sparring area. He tumbled a few times before finally landing on his back.

Melan wasn't the only one dazed.

The boy groaned, finally twitching where he lay, further proof that he was still conscious. He slowly attempted to sit up, managing after several tries.

His armor vanished in a flash of light though his Keyblade remained beside him as he lifted his free hand to rub the back of his head. He looked up at Melan, forcing a smile.

"...y-yeah... I think I can agree with that."

Bright blue eyes flicked towards the most obvious of the Knight's injuries. "Are you okay? You're bleeding..."
happyduckbutt: (kwa?)

It was hard to smile when your body hurt with the slightest movement. He'd probably be all right though, he was mostly just sore.

"Whoa..." he murmured as he watched Melan tend to his wound. Glancing up again, Ventus shook his head, wincing a little at the movement.

"It's okay, I got it covered." He dropped a hand over his Keyblade, hefting it up to point directly overhead. "Cura!"

What looked like a soft rain of glowing leaves drifted down over him, enveloping him in a faint green light.

The boy's smile was a little more natural now that he wasn't trying to hold back a wince.

"Yeah, I kinda did," he admitted, scratching the back of his head. "I'm glad we're on the same side- otherwise I think I'd be in real trouble if we had to fight for real!"
happyduckbutt: (wait say that again?)

[personal profile] happyduckbutt 2013-01-22 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, um...that's nice to know?" How else was he supposed to respond to that?

Ventus started to try getting to his feet with the aid of his Keyblade. He dusted himself off, nodding at Melan.

"Mostly. I'll be okay though. What about you?" he asked.

Blinking at the sudden extra help, Ventus steadied himself as the tentacles slipped away. He grinned up at Melan. That was pretty handy.

     "Thanks."
happyduckbutt: (Things'll be all right)

[personal profile] happyduckbutt 2013-01-23 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
He noticed the look, tilting his head curiously at the Knight as he wondered if Melan was really all right.

"Oh, sure. What is it?" Ventus asked once Melan spoke up again.
happyduckbutt: (I belieeeeeve)

[personal profile] happyduckbutt 2013-01-23 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ventus blinked at that request. "I'm...not sure I understand, but I'll do whatever you need me to do," he said. "Just tell me how."
happyduckbutt: (I just have to believe)

That sounded simple enough, even though at that moment, Ventus still wasn't sure what an Ampoule was. "Okay, got it. After a few hours, then-" he said, nodding.

The disappearing trick wasn't anything the boy had expected though, and he took a step back with a gasp.

     "...wow..."

Stepping closer to the little bottle-looking thing, Ventus stooped down to pick it up. That was different. He stood up again, smiling faintly as he carefully curled his fingers over the object.

"Have a good rest, Melan. I'll see you later," he said quietly, taking care to pocket it.
