Who: Cliffjumper and Starscream
Where: Trion's library

What: Blurr's playing matchmaker.
Warnings: Probably really flustered robots.

Observing others was something Blurr was more than passing familiar with. He was a spy and most of his missions involved a lot of long days doing nothing but reading body languages, studying speech patters and paying close attention to conversations.

Some behaviours were more familiar than others and he noticed the way Cliffjumper and Starscream bantered, chatted and looked after each other. It almost seemed like they were the only ones who didn't see what was in front of them. He didn't know Starscream all that much yet but he liked to think that he knew Cliffjumper well enough to tell when the mech needed a little push.

And thus a plan was set. Blurr asked each one of them to meet him at Trion's library. Blurr told Starscream he wanted to show him some science books he had found. Cliffjumper received the message that Blurr wanted to practice his powers some more.

He wouldn't be there when they arrived but one of Blurr's firelizards would make sure to lock them inside once they were in the same room. Blurr hopped that Trion wouldn't be too bothered by the fact he used one of the tables to set a dinner for them.

On the table there were also two envelopes with their names written on the outside. Inside, there was a small note. Starscream's one read 'Say yes' while Cliffjumper's had 'Ask him out' written on it.

[ yeah well Cliffjumper isn't the only one trying to calm down either. he hasn't quite thought of his friend that way - not that the mech isn't good enough! he doesn't think that he's done anything for Blurr to think that they'd be interested...

not that they don't work well together, they do and -

and going back over to his side to sit, elbows on knees and just putting his face in his hands. ]

Walked right into it too...

[ they had. both of them...

now how awkward could this get. ]

[At that, Cliffjumper snorted, a noise between a laugh and an exasperated growl as he tilted his helm back to stare at the ceiling.]

... Yeah, we did didn't we. Ya know it doesn't... I mean. We can just---

[Sliding down in his seat, Cliffjumper lowered his gaze back down to fix it on the energon cube, reaching out to fiddle with it because what's he supposed to say?]

[ he raises a hand at this, still not meeting the other's gaze. ]

We're both equally flustered, Cliffjumper.

[ don't start digging your own holes. the flustering is sort of adorable, yes, but encouragement... comfort... suggestions.... don't really need that right now. just one step at a time. calm down... ]

This is just ridiculous...

[ why, though, is it embarrassing - that's the ridiculous part. shouldn't they just be laughing this off and carrying on? it isn't like they haven't done this before, really. they've shared plenty of meals. does the setting really make the difference? or is there something they can't see but someone like Blurr can... ]

I need a drink.

[ he's thinking too much, basically. stop him. he's trying to apply science to this. ]

[Starscream interrupting him was probably just for the best, because he still had no idea what to say or where he was going with what he was trying to formulate. At the last he glanced up and barked a laugh, quite surprised it slipped out.]

Well, luckily, we've got energon right here in front of us.

[Tapping the cube he had been fiddling with, Cliffjumper picked it up with a hesistant but lopsided grin and eyed it.]

I mean, it'd be kinda a pity... I suppose, to let it go to waste.

[The next vent in was deeper than usual, and he still felt... unsettled, antsy. Flustered, but Starscream's comment had managed to pull him away from the immediate burning churn of it.]

[ Cliffjumper's sudden laugh has Starscream jerking upright. it's not something he had been expecting - the surprised look on his face plates likely showing his shock.

then it falls into an easy, but exasperated smile. shaking his helm, he chuckles. picking up the energon once more, there's a nod in Cliffjumper's direction. ]

One good thing about being locked in here, right?

[ his nerves are still pretty frazzled though. ]

Yeah... [At the mention of being locked in, Cliffjumper grimaces, his optics going to the door, up at Starscream and then immediately back at the energon again as he takes a quick gulp.]

Pretty, uh, good energon though.

[It's stupid, the way he keeps being flustered, because he shouldn't be just because Blurr thought something that isn't there and locked them up.

For some reason he can't just laugh it off while being angry at Blurr for locking them in though, and... he's got no idea how to deal with that.]

Hope he fraggin' well ain't gonna keep us here all smeltin' night!

It has an odd taste to it.

[ not a bad one, but it's still there. Cliffjumper could make fun of him for that. it isn't like Starscream hasn't done the same once or twice.

but he'll drink it all the same. ]

I doubt Blurr would go that far.

[Snickering, Cliffjumper shook his helm and tilted his cube at Starscream, feeling a bit more collected now.

Just somewhat, but it was enough.]

Doubt it's the same I got from your energon, but hopefully ain't too bad?

[Chuckling about it was all he was going to do at the moment, though. Then he let out a huge, long-suffering static sigh, shifting in his seat a little.]

Who the frag knows. I didn't even think he'd do somethin' like this.

[ Starscream is finally able to look up at Cliffjumper without flustering and needing to look away. ...well. not flustering too much anyway. ]

No, it isn't. I'm hardly going to give a full frame shudder. It's just... Different?

[ that's the only way he can put it before he's taking a few more drinks and looking off at that door. would FF in charge of this place mind too much if he hacked away at it? ]

And he was such a cute little mech too...

[ they need some way to get back at him, clearly. ]

Doesn't sound worse than I had to put up with, then.

[Which was a good thing, but he didn't think it'd have been worse since Soundwave, Megatron and Ravage had been or was around, but he hadn't thought to ask any of them.]

Yeah, well, ya know what they say 'bout the cute ones. [Huffing, Cliffjumper tossed a glare over his shoulders at the door and then slid slightly deeper in his seat.

While it was easier now, he was still locked in, alone, with Starscream and it really shouldn't have been a big thing. The awkwardness still lingered at the edges of his awareness, alongside with being very aware of Starscream himself - which was silly, the mech was his friend, not an enemy.]

[ a flutter of optics before: ]

No, I don't. What do they say?

[ seriously. he's confused by that expression. is it some human one that he hasn't heard about yet?

eh, either way. Cliffjumper should be aware of Starscream. he's pretty much watching the other's body language, trying to gauge the mood of the other. yes, he is still feeling a mite awkward and on edge as well. but at least the flier has calmed down considerably. ]

Maybe we should ping him again...

... Wait, got that wrong. [With a scrunch of his nasal ridge, Cliffjumper shrugged.] Supposed to be 'the quiet ones', but Blurr ain't really quiet.

Think it'd work the same though, and the saying's just one the humans use like it's always those you least expect that pull slag.

[Cliffjumper's only looking at Starscream every now and then, eyeing his energon just as much or more than the scientist. More relaxed or not, looking at Starscream makes him just think of why Blurr tricked them here.

Talking of Blurr again, Cliffjumper huffs.]

Better you do it, or I'm gonna start fraggin' yellin' again.

True... Every now and then I have to take an extra moment to understand what he just told me as well.

[ he rubs at his chin in thought. it's true that Blurr isn't the type that he'd think would be up for these sorts of shenanigans.

hearing the huff, Starscream looks at Cliffjumper once more. ]

There's no need for yelling. You'll only be showing how embarrassed you really are that way.

[ someone had to say it. ]

Yeah. Different from the Blurr we otherwise both know--- hey! [Sputtering, Cliffjumper thrust his cube at Starscream before putting it down before he spilled the contents everywhere.] I'm not--- he wouldn't---

... fine. [Beating his flexing field into submission, Cliffjumper crossed his arms over his chestplates and totally didn't pout.] He still deserves to be yelled at.

[And Cliffjumper wasn't sure he could keep from yelling at Blurr, at least to start with.]

[ oops. that's a hand covering half of his face to hide the laughing. too bad Cliffjumper can probably tell that he is from the way his wings twitch and shoulders move regardless.

after a moment, it passes and Starscream just simply relaxes, smile intact. ]

Oh, he does need to be told that it is, ah, perhaps not wise to trap a mech with a short temper in a building where he can be easily flustered.

[ another chuckle and back to drinking his energon. because teasing his keeping his processor from going to other places - like thinking about why he can't completely calm down or what Blurr sees is going on. ]

Besides... No one really has to know outside of we three, right?

[Very funny, Starscream. Cliffjumper grumbles, optics narrowing and eyeing the table, considering if there was anything he could toss. His hand freezes halfway to a decoration as Starscream speaks and...]

I'm not that easily--- I may have a short temper, but it ain't that easy to embarrass me! [He's yelling and he's blushing, optics fight and field flickering as he scowls, and he's just basically contradicting himself and he knows it.]

Ugh, fine, whatever. I ain't alone in this. [With a huffy snort, Cliffjumper does toss the decoration and then slumps back into his seat, rolling his optics. He knows he's being silly.]

... True. [Doesn't make it less embarrassing or make him less flustered, but true.]

[ Starscream just fixes Cliffjumper a look at that first statement. ]

I was going to say -

[ but then the decoration hits him and rolls right down. he looks at it then to Cliffjumper. then starts with a static laced sigh as if he's judging. ]

That was effective.

[ but yeah. he can't hold that expression and just goes to chuckle some more, debating on if he should retaliate or not. ]

Really, it could be worse. You could have been trapped here with the other Starscream.

[ ha! ]

Ah, mute it. [Cliffjumper mutters and looks away briefly, but there's half a grin around his mouth. Yeah, that hadn't been the most mature, but whatever. It had been harmless and he felt a bit better.]

... Starscream! That's--- [There's a groan and something like a muffled choked noise.] I'd be punching him within a klik! [Pause.] Or have thrown the energon on the fragger.

Ain't the Starscream I know, obviously, but from what I've seen it's close enough. [And he's just going to scrunch his nasal ridge and grimace. What a disgusting suggestion!]

[ are you watching him, Cliff? because Starscream is trying really really hard not to show he's laughing. it's all to make the other less nervous, honestly. if that means converting the flustered energy into anger and disgust?

well...

and okay, no. Starscream isn't holding back now. he's just laughing. the way that Cliffjumper contorts those face plates... ]

Hey!

[Look at the mini being offended, Starscream. Just look at him scowl at you and considering throwing another decoration and then sitting back with a snort and arms crossed over his chestplates.]

It wasn't that fraggin' funny.

[Cliffjumper huffs and rolls his optics, even if he's vaguely amused because Starscream's laughing, even if it's at, or because of, him.]

What you said? No, not really. Your over all reaction?

[ Starscream gives a half smile as his chuckles ebb and he finishes his cube. ]

Though you know I don't really mean to offend.

[Cliffjumper holds his annoyed expression for a moment longer, and then grins, raising his cube.]

Yeah, I know. If ya actually did, there'd be more to be of an urge to punch you. Right now it's nonexistent.

[His grin sharpens a bit before he busies himself with the cube.]

You don't have these, uh, urges often, do you?

[ please say no. he doesn't want to think that Cliffjumper would want to. he's SEEN the damage that little build can do. ]

[He'd be serious, really, but Starscream's tone and his expression and he bursts out laughing, carefully putting the cube on the table.]

Uh--- towards you? No. [He sobers up relatively quickly, but is still grinning as he shakes his helm.] You ain't annoyin' enough. [And then, despite that that was a perfectly normal statement, his optics brighten.

This stupid situation and fragging Blurr.]

[ for a moment he looks confused. why is Cliffjumper laughing... it's nothing to laugh about. ]

Cliffjumper...

[ but he hears the rest of what he says and sighs. what a load off his shoulders then. ]

That's... That's a relief.

[ it'd be horrible if he got on his friend's nerves. that's all. nothing more than that! ]
