The Worst Field Trip of All Time

WHO: Megatronus & the Badlands volunteers
WHERE: At the edge of Haven, then onwards to the center of the Badlands offshoot.
WHEN: Sunday/Monday
WHAT: Now that they have their assault team, it's time to put an end to the recent influx of monsters.
WARNINGS: Violence against robotic centipedes.

Whether they hear it from Megatronus himself or through one of his Acolytes, all of the volunteer fighters are offered the same information: a time, a place, and instructions on what to expect from the Badlands. More of the monsters, surely, and the Call of the darkness is an ever-present threat. Stay within sight of the group at all times or risk being lost forever.

The only thing left to do now is make it to the rendez-vous point.

[[OOC note: tag in under the two sub-threads already provided: a more relaxed one for pre-fight chatter, and the actual fight thread. You can participate in both, or just do one and handwave your character's involvement in the other.]]

Does this work okay? Let me know if not. <3

Wing knows how Drift operates so the direct approach doesn't surprise him at all. He moved easily into a supporting position, intent on cleaving some breathing room out of the horde of smaller centipedes so the other swordmech can work unimpeded.

It's almost eerie how he tracks Drift's position, even when dealing with his own host of attacking bugs. He's not only watching Drift's back, but looking for those openings he knows are coming. Because that's one of the things they do well together. The tenacious grounder is ideally suited to keeping the creature's attention, taking the brunt of its attacks and forcing it to expose its weak points.

Wing is watching, sensing Drift's anticipation and ready to leap into action.

wut is this tagging you something not schmoopy

Drift's first strikes send a cascade of sparks from the thing's throat. It doesn't do much damage, but it does get the thing's attention, which was good enough for right now. Drift lands, heavily, in his alt mode, tires spitting out gravel and bits of churned up ground as he tore away to circle around for another strike.
winged_knight: (action: wings)

so wacky what is even happening here

[personal profile] winged_knight 2013-02-13 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
He hears the strike, it's hard not to. Before the shower of sparks hits the ground he leaves it, taking to the air with a leap and a burst from his jump jets. The arc carries Wing to his target, striking the bared side of the neck as the creature's head tracks Drift. Momentum carries him down, blades traveling in a twin path, trying to cut deeper through the armor. Then he springs away before the thing can swing around again, maneuvering out of its physical reach. Hopefully...this thing doesn't spit acid too.
sword_redemption: (swords away)

what's happening is omg I suck

Spitting acid wouldn't surprise Drift. There seems no end of nasty to it; it almost made the Swarm look good. And smarter. Because big and ferocious as it was, it was rock-stupid, tracking him, leaving himself open as it roars in pain at Wing's long strike.

"Stop trying to steal all the fun," he chides, rolling to one knee and letting a burst of fire loose toward the wounds Wing's just made.
winged_knight: (action: altmode (let's pretend!))

I still <3 you though!

Acid spit does seem like a thing a creature this powerful would have, so Wing's careful to watch himself. He might have increased armor but acid drool was the last thing he wanted to test it with.

Hopefully there's something in that beast that's flammable because Wing's suddenly inspired.

"Stop giving me good ideas then," he taunts back before folding into his alt with a flash, powering back towards the creature and catching the fire in his wake. He'll just fan those flames a little, and maybe take a trip past the thing's head to see how truly rock-stupid it is. Who knows, maybe it'll return the favor and make an opening for Drift.
sword_redemption: (i got this)

well wow I suck at action tags

Now, the only thing a mech like Drift likes more than a good stabbing is a good explosion. Ask Turmoil about that.

The thing roars, limbs swiping after Wing as he flies by, but it's soon distracted by the whole 'on fire' thing.

Drift thinks it looks better on fire. And that Wing looks, well...hot.

Shush.

He's not going to admire...too much, rushing in as it rears up to attack the underbelly.
winged_knight: (action: altmode (let's pretend!))

shhhh you can fake it with me

[personal profile] winged_knight 2013-03-17 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
Wing banks and shifts, artfully dodging the swiping limbs as he leaves the creature's reach. He can almost hear the spin-up of some mechanism as the thing rears, likely acid if one assumes the worst.

The jet cuts his speed and makes a bit of a target of himself, all while choosing a vector that should make rolling out of the way easy enough. Well, in theory.

Of course it would spit acid. I mean, why not? If you're designing Unholy Abominations:

* massive size: check
* unholy shrieking non language: check
* insectlike appearance: check

WHY NOT acid spit?

Drift drives his blades, both of them, into the underbelly, with the same force and vehemence he had against Turmoil, back on the other's ship. But this time it was to save someone. "Not. So. Fast." he manages. Roll out of the way? It's like Wing didn't know what an idiot, er, fierce warrior he is.

Unholy Abomination is right. The acrid stench of its breath should be indication enough. The thing lets loose with a spray of acid at the same time Drift strikes, the foul substance falling short as a painful shriek burbles from its throat. Only a few flecks of acid strike Wing's plating as he maneuvers in, unfortunately, the direction the great creature had anticipated. Thankfully Drift makes a rather nice acid spew deterrent.

And maybe if they're lucky the thing is not wholly immune to it's own spew, given it had to swallow half of that. And well, if that sound is any indication? They've definitely made it mad now.
