you can never turn down a good fight can you marvelous
WHO: Captain Marvelous and Saber
WHERE: Between the junk pile and the Rec Center
WHEN: After this post.
WHAT: Saber and Marvelous spar.
WARNINGS: It's a sparring match, but I don't foresee anything actually objectionable.
Marvelous lands near the blonde woman he assumes is Saber in a flash of red light; he's briefly in-suit, but immediately after landing he sheds it, leaving him in his regular clothes. If it turns out he's going to need the boost, he'll be happy to put it on. As it stands, Saber seems like a normal human. He crosses his arms over his chest as he sizes her up.
"Saber, right?" he says, one eyebrow raised.

When they make contact, she drives him back a step, but his saber stays intact and he's able to push back long enough to slide the barrel of his pistol under the hilt of his sword, tilting it toward her abdomen. He nearly fires before he remembers she's, for all he knows, a regular human with weird magic sword (and clothes, but then so was he on that front). Instead, he twists away, stepping back in order to get his balance and jump right back in with an over-the-head slash.
oh god how do i rp fight /flail
As the knight holds him in that position for a moment, Saber speaks while she has the chance.
"Do you regularly use your firearm while sparring?"
Saber had definitely noticed the motion of Marvelous' pistol, and how close he was - or could have been - to firing it. In normal situations, one wouldn't use a firearm while training. After all, a normal human could easily die upon receiving such a blow.
This man was not normal, but Saber was having a hard time gauging him. Her movements were calculated, but purposefully slow (at least, for her). She'd either disarm him or continue to study his movements until he'd run out of stamina. They were both holding back, Saber knew.
Just, how much?
you're doing fine!!
He backs off from the pressure of her sword, and takes a few more until he's fairly sure he's out of her immediate range. That done, he holsters his pistol and swaps his sword to his other hand. He considers for a moment donning his armor, taking things to the next level, but he'll let this play out a moment longer.
When he leaps back in this time, his sword is coming in from below.

The slash is easily parried with her own blade, the great sword swung down in a downwards angle as she examines his face. Saber is not so eager to treat this as a fight; she has no interest in either of them being severely harmed.
As his blade glides up the invisible great sword from his momentum, she swings her blade upwards in an attempt to, once again, knock him off balance. This time, she counter attacks. As his blade leaves her own with the throwing motion, she withdraws her hands and then pierces her sword outwards to his chest. He may not be able to tell the length of her sword, but she knows exactly where it is.
And it'll end up pointed directly at his chest, a mere inch away, if he's unable to recover quickly.

If there's one thing Marvelous is in great possession of, it's survival instincts. Her expression has changed some, and he's wary of it as she throws him off. Her sword is definitely pressed to the lock pendant hanging low over his sternum, but he's drawn his gun as he stumbles back to balance, and his aim is level. His expression is bland as he hangs his sword on his belt.
"But clearly I'm not quite dressed for the occasion," he muses out loud

Still, how does one practice with a firearm? That still somewhat goes over her head, but she'll accept it for now. He is a pirate, as he says.
As he switches weaponry, Saber steps back a few paces, her sword held to one side the entire while.
"Not quite dressed?"

He holsters his pistol, and flicks open his Mobirates with a quick jerk of his wrist. "Gokai Change," he says, to activate the morphing system, and inserts the key into the lock. A flash later, he's suited up and ready to go, and he levels his sword at her. "Let's have some fun," he says, and leaps at her.
awesome, i have no icons for her without armor /lol
Darting backwards as he leaps at her, light flashes around Saber as her armor returns. As he requests, she indulges him. He's right, this is for "fun" and to pass the time. And she feels a bit more confident in the situation now that he has protective means.
As he lands, he's rushed by her charging forward. Her hands are at her shoulder at first, but then begin to swing downwards in a diagonal movement.
it's ok i can use my imagination ;)
(They never said punching each other was off the table, after all.)

I'm also having a bit of a hard time gauging these two against each other, but I'm bad with that type of thing in general. I realize she's better at swordplay and he's better at actual all-situation fighting. Saber's Invisible Air, as mentioned, can easily break a weapon in two, so Saber has to somewhat hold back. Does his transformation increase only strength? What else does it help with? Either way, she'd be defensive regardless.))
Stepping back once, Saber allows him to rush her as she catches each blow with her sword, and skillfully. Stepping back with each blow, she catches each of his movements. She's well aware of his available hand, and her eyes follow both his blade, his face, and his hand.
Even with his obvious increase in strength, she's still not able to swing Excalibur with her full confidence; the holy weapon and the air shield around it would destroy that sword, especially if he attempted to block a blow.
So, Saber plays it safe. Maybe he'll catch on, and maybe he won't. She remains defensive, and watches each of his moves as she learns his patterns. When he lets up, or when he leaves an opening, she'll gladly counter-attack to put him on edge. Hopefully he doesn't continue to be aggressive and play himself out. Even though she's not able to go all out, she still appreciates this situation.
The more battle situations she can experience, the more it adds to her repertoire of battle knowledge.

Something about Saber smells like Joe, is what he realizes after several attacks. He stopped sparring Joe somewhere around recruiting Luka to the team, because Marvelous didn't like the feeling of being humored (and Joe didn't like getting punched in the face or, more usually, leg-swept onto his ass). He and Joe were partners, though, and Saber's some weird girl he barely knows. So he goes his more usual route for when people do things he didn't like--he gets mad.
"You gonna fight for real, or are you just gonna play around?" he asks, pushing down against her sword on their next clash, and shifts his right foot to hook his right foot behind her left ankle and pull.

"As you wish," the knight responds. By this time, she's gotten a feeling more for that blade of this. It doesn't seem quite normal, but at times like this, it makes Saber wish she could sense more as the others could.
Feeling the presence of his foot at her ankle, she manages to step over it in a turning motion. Twirling away from his foot and the blade, she turns an entire circle. As she's circling back, she begins to swing at him repeatedly.
The movements of her sword are not to catch off guard - an overhead slash, a slash to the right, and similar ones all in chained and in elegant sequence.. They are predictable and easy to block, but there is an immense amount of strength behind the sword now, something that would be surprising coming from someone of her size. When his blade catches hers, the swords ring loudly from the contact.
The air currents around her blade have slowed slightly, but it's still just enough to cover the appearance of the blade. At this type of output, she needn't worry about harming his blade with standard swipes.
As she charges him, she notes how his blade receives her own each time, and the method in which he catches her strikes.
sorry i'm so slow lately @_@
She's basically telegraphing the moves, but they're still impressive, and his mouth quirks a little as he steps up his pace to match her. The sudden strength difference is jarring, and he nearly breaks under the first overhead slash before he manages to shove it away to his right.
Her change from defensive to offensive is appreciated; it gives him time to see where she might be neglecting in the paradigm shift. If she makes a misstep, he'll be right there to catch it, and tear it wide open. (Admittedly, that will require getting out from under the damn sword, first, but he's always been resourceful.)
With the length of her sword, she might be looking to get some distance on things, and keep him at bay there. He's not interested in being at her mercy, and sticks as close as he can, waiting for his moment.
dude, me too. christmas blues.
He's waiting for an opening, and understandably so. She doesn't intend to give it to him, however.
The moves begin to speed up, and they're somewhat less easy to read. The overhead slashes start to come down in more circular motions, and the swipes to the sides come in more diagonally. Her speed would be overwhelming for someone untrained, but to him it'd likely be around the area of "very quick".
As she picks up her pace and continues to step forward into him, her swings become somewhat larger. The speed increase stops him from being able to suddenly jab into her flow easily. The knight has decided it's time to put a slightly larger gap of distance between them.
